I have Vuescan for my Minolta Dual II scanner, but i can't seem to get a batch scan with the V700 whit al frames selected properly. Yeah why is the Silverfast so expensive for the Nikon scanners €449! Why didn't they make an Ai version like they have for the Epson V700, instead of needing to buy the whole suite! the last update from Kodak was for OS 9.Ĭyberview, which writes the drivers, claims it'll run on a rosetta platform. Legacy is a good idea & have a couple of G4 towers, but the last update from Kodak was for OS 9. I'm still running on Snow Leopard, I'm still putting off Lion. It is! Even more so in your neck of the woods.Įven with high film prices, it's pretty cool to live in an exotic country :-) Their pricing varies according to the scanner- for the Canons and Epsons the price of the high end version is $299, for the highend Coolscans it's $449 (which, I agree is unreasonable for non- professional use). There's just no way I can justify spending $500 for the possibility of marginally better scans than my existing workflow. My discount for updating from the Epson bundled version to the Nikon version is a massive $5! I think if they were to price it at about $200 to $250ish many more people would be willing to buy a copy. The extent of the discount depends on your existing version but as a 6.6 user for me it was 50% (was able to upgrade level of software at that discount as well). There is upgrade pricing for existing users with registration numbers, and free upgrades for people who buy hardware that includes Silverfast. There comes a time when all good things must end. That said, it's unfortunate cyberview hasn't release their drivers into the public domain so the 3600 could be supported in open source or by ed hamrick. if it weren't for ed hamrick - silverfast would own the monopoly on which scanners are supported. If you require the benefits of a real film scanner, over a flatbed, it may be worth it to set up a dedicated legacy system devoted to film scans.Įventually all 'vintage' scanners will become inoperable. Haven't yall heard the news? fresh film is prohibitively expensive, too. Will see if it works on my macbook, the ver 7 did not as rosetta was crashing. The Kodak RFS 3600 scanner went back to the garage :-(

I downloaded the Silverfast to try it, it worked ok, but it was much cheaper (less than half) to buy an Epson V600 than buying the software. There's no drivers or any support from Kodak at all. I have an old Kodak RFS 3600 35mm film scanner, quite nice BTW but my Mac Pro will not see it.
